Patient Zero: Origins

With Julia having completed the cognitive tests, which she passed with flying colours, and the Chantal’s having departed now that their fears, chiefly those of Angela, having been placated; Doctor Fogg orders, “Get Julia prepped for the procedure.”

He isn’t willing to delay any longer. The delay of almost an entire day is more than he is comfortable with, so now that Harborne House is firmly back within his control and no longer being viewed suspiciously by Angel Chantal, he is keen to press on.

However, the response he is met with is not what he would prefer as someone questions, “Should we be pressing ahead without first attempting a cell bond with Compound B-eighty one-F?”

“We must, what with the mother growing ever more suspicious with every visit they make.” Doctor Fogg says with frustration and irritation creeping into his normally even tone.

“Don’t fret Ichabod. Everything is in hand.” Timothy Pearson, CEO of Delta LLC, says as he appears seemingly out of nowhere at the side of the grey doctor.

“Mr Pearson, I didn’t know you would be coming down here.” Doctor Ichabod Fogg says in shock after having turned to face the one hundred and eighty three centimetre tall, forty six year old man who has greying black slicked back hair and hazel coloured eyes that complement the hand-made charcoal grey suit he is wrapped in.

“Your surprise is astounding Doctor. After all, this is a vital project for Delta and I wouldn’t dream of missing it for the world…” Timothy replies before continuing, “Alas, the Chantal’s will no longer be permitted visits without proper arrangements being made first.”

The CEO then smirks. It’s a scary look on the man’s face and in no way suits him at all. Yet, Ichabod is one of the few people who is unperturbed by it.

“Is that why Mrs Chantal was so confrontational?” Doctor Fogg queries mildly vexed by the fact that he was not involved in such a decision. Even though the decision does benefit him and what he is trying to achieve in every conceivable way.

“It is likely, but not something that you should trouble yourself with. Such a thing is a security matter and from here on out, seeing as I am now on-site, security will be reporting directly to me.” Timothy answers in what is his trademark diplomatic tone. Shortly after he turns to the rest of Doctor Fogg’s assembled help to remind, “Everyone should and will follow the good doctor’s every command.”

“Am I being sidelined?” Ichabod asks following a wave of Timothy’s hand that was a clear indication, immediately adhered to, for all of the workers to quickly depart and get on with their respective duties.

“You are not Ichabod. However, assurances have to be made considering how much money Delta, and our parent company Xen, have and are funnelling into this little Orion Project of yours.” Timothy Pearson assures without an ounce of the diplomatic tone that had been present just moments prior.

“I understand. But does that mean you are taking direct charge as of now?” Ichabod questions before nervously awaiting the response which he is not looking forward to in any way.

“No Ichabod, I’m here to ensure everything runs smoothly. You are still firmly in-charge. However, I think this conversation would be better suited for another time. After all, there is a patient and a procedure for them to undergo…” Timothy utters causing a smile to split across Doctor Fogg’s face prior to Mr Pearson adding, “If she is ready of course.”

“She is ready. She’s perfect. We couldn’t have found a better fit for the project…” Ichabod begins as he and Mr Pearson stride down the corridor side by side.

Doctor Fogg details and explains all the ways in which Julia Chantal is the perfect candidate for the procedure that they intend to undertake.

Timothy stays quiet as they head for the operating theatre. A smile now stretched across his face as he listens to Doctor Ichabod Fogg ramble on about the science of all of it. None of that interests him, but he knows it is best to indulge the genius alongside him even if he is overbearing the vast majority of the time. And to make matters worse he also suffers paranoia, hence why Ichabod wondered if Timothy Pearson was here to rip control out of his large spindly hands.
