Death Of Brutality

Vultures circling high up in the crystal blue sky.
Waiting for my emaciated body to finally die.
While crawling across these scorching sands of fate.

Body almost completely drained.
Vision narrowed down to pin pricks.
Ragged breathing signals defeat.
Soon this cycle will be complete.

Waking with a start in a bed, body caked in sweat.
Was it a dream or am I supposed to be dead?
Get the answer when I try to sit up straight.

Confused by surroundings I do not know.
Is this safety or a new hell for me to go through?
Too early to say but perhaps this isn’t real.
Waiting for a new disaster reveal.

You’re finally awake, is the sweet tone that reaches my ears.
Smiling on the far side of the room trying to dispel my fears.
Regardless I consider you might be another wolf in the flock.

Wary, I ask how long I’ve been out.
Four days is your reply said with no doubt.
Keeping your distance as I try to judge your honesty.
You seem like an angel but I’ve been wrong previously.

“Get some rest before you attempt to move.”
Statement that doesn’t help my uneasy mood.
I begrudgingly comply, though I do so with only one closed eye.

“If you’re not going to sleep you may as well eat.”
Fair comment to make as she enters smelling sweet.
“If I was going to hurt you I wouldn’t bring you food.”
My shield starts to crack as I’m being rude.

Days turn to weeks that make it utterly clear.
No angle is being played to bring me new fear.
For once in my life I have found a good someone.

From a life filled with hate, blood and death.
To now I have one that keeps me in good health.
Shift in sands I thought would spell my doom.
Forever grateful to be with her and removed from gloom.

‘Banger to father in several blinks of an eye.
Never believed I could ever be that guy.
Happy to see these vultures continuing to fly.
