Tinderbox

Can’t see what is right before our eyes.
Trees dying from burning skies.
As drought grips from coast to coast.
Life is transitioning to being a ghost.
With feast materials running dry.
There is a wilting cry.

Cowering in shade that offers little reprieve.
Property blazes as owners grieve.
Tasting acrid smoke in every breath.
Summers signal distress and death.
Gigantic shift in how this season unfolds.
No longer fits in established moulds.

Leaves gather as if autumns come early.
Faded, dried up, brittle and curly.
Tragedy waiting to occur.
Need to do better than simply concur.
For there is more than just a human cost.
Potential for masses to be lost.

As rivers weep their final tears.
We need to consider rather than ignore our fears.

Causality breeds suffering.
Signals we are ignoring.
Choking on too hot air.
Months of ease that can end in despair.
But we shrug and carry on.
Hoping it will never come.
As crops get turned to poor animal feed.
There is not enough to satiate boundless greed.
So open your eyes.
See effects and their outcomes.
Maybe we shouldn’t deny what we’re living.

Can’t see what is right before our eyes.
Trees dying from burning skies.
As drought grips from coast to coast.
Life is transitioning to being a ghost.
