Gone Before Time

Fade in but mainly fading out.
Head full of cloud that fills me with doubt.
As seasons change so does the mood.
Transition from resolute to needing to prove.
With a sense of failure seeping in.
Reminder of slippage as it comes round again.

Drift off without a thought to maintain.
Enveloped in a cocoon of incredible shame.
Selection between weakened and brash.
Unprepared for this impending crash.
Head warped by hours of deliberation.
Each breath brings about renewed disintegration.

Speak these verses yet can’t behold…
Clarity faded to grey from gold.
Fractured standing that refuses to mend.
Under lights too bright it all starts to bend.
Thirsting for closure that never seems to come.
Overdosing on a spotlight that cannot remain too long.
Scorching flesh that hasn’t been left to heal.
Madness lurks behind each and every seal.
Choking air out of lungs too young to rebel.
Giving the malleable a desiccated shell.

Dowse these fires to have subservience prevail.
Berate outliers until they ultimately fail.
For motions of joy should be battered down.
Suffocating reason without rational reason.
Beauty soon collapses into rampant decay.
Here lies all tragedy in a mass grave mentality.
